Department of Economics, University of Maryland

Mission & Structure
The Financial Literacy Outreach and Training (FLOAT) program is a student-run organization at the University of Maryland with support from the Department of Economics in the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences. Each fall, University of Maryland students undergo on-campus training in personal finance skills and pedagogy. Then in the spring, students serve in local middle schools to deliver engaging lesson plans in an 8-week program. Through class activities and customized curriculum, youth are exposed to the principles of borrowing, saving, spending, and investing in future success.
